本論文之構思旨趣在於審視藝術作品的社會學考察如何可能，也就是試圖證成藝術作品的社會性，以正當化藝術作品成為社會學的探究對象，可以說是作品社會學的知識條件之考察。
在論述策略上，援引Georg Simmel在〈社會如何可能？〉一文所提出三個構成社會的先驗條件，並轉譯重構為普遍化的個體、非普遍化的個體，以及成為社會的個體。繼之，將此三個構成要件應用至藝術作品，探求藝術作品成為社會如何可能的條件。在此，亦相應提出藝術作品具備社會性的三個構成要件，分別是作品的可辨識性、獨特性及公共性。完成了社會性構成要件的闡述，接續以三個藝術史中作品重新再被肯認的例子──Giuseppe Arcimboldo、Jan Vermee 及Vincent vanGogh──具體說明藝術作品如何重返社會，成為社會的過程。
本論文的結論以重新回顧並梳理社會如何可能，以及藝術作品的社會性如何可能，提出作品社會學的研究對象必須滿足本文所論述的三個構成要件（可辨識性、獨特性、公共性），並企圖進一步開展，這三個構成要件將使藝術作品的考察無可避免地陷入「行動vs.結構」這個社會學長久以來的困境。亦即藝術作品內在生成「為藝術而藝術」的獨特性，面對著既定社會範疇的分類歸屬，並爭取展出可能的公共性，以此獲得其社會存在，也就是「獨特性vs.可辨識性／公共性」的兩難。本論文證成了作品成為社會學考察的知識條件，也提醒了作品社會學必須面對的基本難題。
英文摘要

This article consists of two parts. For the first, I try to elaborate Georg Simmel’s concept about “how is society possible?”, i.e., there are three transzendental elements, which make society possible: generalized individuum, non-generalized individuum, and societal individuum.
Then, the second part of this article will be apply Simmel’s suggestion to analyze “how is the socialness of an artwork possible?”. According to the inspiration of Simmel’s three a priori elements, I developes in this article three social characters of an artwork, in order to response “how is an artwork societal possible?”, namely recognizable, unique, and public. When an artwork cann be analyzed with a sociological perspective, the artwork must perform the three societal components.
Finally, I mention that a sociological research of an artwork may confront conflicts between the three societal components, esp. the tension between the individual property of “l’art pour l’art” (the unique of an artwork) and social categories (recognizable and public). How to relieve the dilemma would be the challenge for sociology of artwork.
